ACOG TEXAS SECTION IS NOW ACOG DISTRICT XI
Texas Section ACOG officially became District XI in February, 2008. This enables Texas to have greater representation within ACOG. Five Texas Sections have been approved (see map below). Sections will have a Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary-Treasurer, and each Section will have Junior Fellow officers (Chair and Vice Chair) as well. This increases our voice in ACOG from just 5 Section Officers to 5 District Officers and 25 Section officers!
In respect for our long-time association and deep established friendships we have with our colleagues in District VII, we will continue to meet jointly with them for our Annual District Meetings for the next years. Excitingly, the next couple of ADM's also have District VIII involved, and the 2008 meeting will be held in Los Cabos, Mexico. These meetings will continue to be excellent CME and fellowship opportunities for our members.
The Interim Texas Section Advisory Council meetings (all 5 Sections) will continue to be held jointly during the Annual TAOG meeting in the spring of each year. This format will enable us to conduct our business, fellowship with our colleagues across the state, and gives us two great and viable CME meetings to attend each year, one in Texas and one with other ACOG members in other fantastic locations.
The opportunities for our Junior Fellows cannot be highlighted enough. With an increase from two JF officers to 10, these young future leaders of our profession will gain greater exposure to all of the ACOG courses, meetings, and educational/leadership opportunities available for junior fellows, as well as increasing our network of communication among the state's residency programs.
The complete transition to full operating District status will take most of the next year to complete, but is expected to be completed by the end of 2008.
TEXAS SECTIONS
Below is a map of the approved Texas Sections. Your officers have developed this representation so that all sections would have Junior Fellow representation, as well as being geographically/ administratively connected in various ways(for example, West Texas physicians have definite practices issues which affect them compared to North Texas physicians).
Your opinion and input is very important to us in this formation process. If you have comments or would like to be involved in the formation of these sections, please contact Dr. John Jennings or Dr. Amy Young.
